The girls and I did some holiday “baking” this afternoon. These chocolate covered pretzels were so much fun to make! We made several bags of them for neighbors, friends, and family. To make your own, you will need:
One 12oz. bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 Tbsp. shortening
Pretzel Rods
Melt shortening and some of the chocolate chips in a double broiler. Stirring occasionally.
When the chips start to melt, add more, and continue to stir, until the entire package is melted.
Spoon the melted chocolate over each pretzel rod, and place on a baking sheet lined with waxed paper.

Both of the girls really got into the sprinkle-fest! Place the baking sheet in the fridge until the chocolate has completely hardened. Package them up! We used pretzel bags (found at A.C. Moore), and could fit 3 pretzels to a bag. (See first photo.)
So much fun!

Dear Valerie,
After a long day at work, I came home to enjoy a nice cold beer and some pretzels. They're all covered in chocolate, and I think I should have had a glass of milk instead.
Love,
Mark

Those look great, and I'm super impressed that you found pretzel bags! You reminded me that I had thought about making some chocolate covered goodies for my husband for Christmas. Have to try to think of something that our little guy isn't allergic to that would be fun to make.
@Mark, that's what White Russians are for.

@ Infant Bibliophile — For the allergies, would chocolate covered dried apricots work? They are very tasty!!

Also, just wanted to suggest another fun and SUPER EASY/cheap pretzel cookie/candy kiddos can help make- I call them "Pretzels with Pizazz."

If you have any extra pretzels, try dipping them in melted caramel first, then chocolate, then add toffee bits. I almost skipped Christmas dinner to just eat those one year.

Looks very tasty. I'm impressed you found cute little bags for them too. The delivery is where I always fall down on the job. I love to bake, but packaging not so much.

So cute!
We're having a themed New Year's Party that will have lots of green, glowing things. So I was thinking of pretzel rods in white and milk chocolate, rolled in green sugar crystals. Still pondering….

We love to make these too. We use white chocolate/almond bark too. So wonderfully tasty!

We tried this once but didn't use the shortening. They didn't come out so great. Now I know why! I bet the shortening helps with the consistency of the chocolate. Thanks for the tip!
Ooh…just read Lenetta's comment…carmel…toffee…I feel like Homer Simpson!
By the way, I made Em a little napkin doll…she loved it! Thanks again to you super hubby!

Yum, I gotta make me some of those.

@ Lenetta — Oh my. That sounds seriously dangerous!! Wow!
@ Mama King — I found out that shortening is key. You'll have much better results now!! Have fun!

Those look really good thanks for sharing

Wow yours came out much prettier than ours did last year. I think you had a much deeper double boiler to use. That probably made it a little easier. Plus I didn't add shortening, why did you? Does it make the chocolate creamier?

There is nothing better than making some homemade treats and sharing it with loved ones! Too cute! Your daughters looked like they were really enjoying themselves while making memories with momma!
