These beautiful snowflake ornaments (shown above) couldn’t have been easier to make! I love that the process was mess-free, very easy, and frugal. Plus, we have more ornaments to add to our tree that are not fragile!!
To make your own snowflake ornaments, you will need: white model magic, snowflake cookie cutters, a rolling pin, and some ribbon.
I like to purchase model magic in big tubs when I have a 40% off coupon for the craft store. You can print one out here, if there is a Michael’s craft store near you!! Or AC Moore has all Crayola merchandize as a Buy One Get One Free special this week!
Invite your child over to roll out the Model Magic. Keep rolling until you have a piece that is about 1/4″ thick.
Cut with cookie cutters!! (This was Emily’s favorite part!)
A straw does a great job of making a hole to thread the ribbon through.
Roll up any excess Model Magic, and repeat the process until all the Model Magic is used up.
One package will make several ornaments!
Allow to air dry, then thread with ribbon to hang on your tree. You could also write on these with markers and they could double as gift tags!!
We had a great time making these, and I cannot wait for Clara to wake up from her nap so she can join in the fun!

How fun! I've been thinking of making reusable tags to go with the fabric wrapping bags I want to make after Christmas & hitting the clearances. :>) These are cute cute cute! (Seriously, don't you ever get tired of us heaping praise on you? Tee hee.)

I've never bought the model magic, but the kids have used it at school. This is a great idea to try with them. Maybe next year (oh, boy, do I have to start planning for next year already?…)

Ooooooo- you could also use other Model Magic colors and make other ornaments with different cookie cutters- looking forward to trying this out tomorrow!

Oh, now I wish I had bought this last week! I was thinking I didn't want just plain white, and I wasn't sure if my two year old would really be into it yet. I was considering buying it for him because he is allergic to the wheat in play-doh. He'd love doing this with it, though. We tried these tonight! Thank you for motivating me to finally buy Model Magic (I knew I'd be stocking up on it someday… play doh has wheat, so the whole allergy thing again). WOW, that stuff is awesome and beats playdoh any day. But, I don't know how you got your snowflakes to pop out of the cutters so nicely. Maybe I was making them too thin. I'll post on my blog sometime and link up — we did different shapes, handprints, etc. Lots of fun, and now I have something for him to play with painting all week. Thanks again.

I never used model magic but it probably cannot be cheaper than salt, flour, and water…
Finely grind salt makes nice glitter, too.
