This afternoon was spent in the backyard where I set out a large piece of cardboard, some washable paints, and let the girls have LOTS of fun painting with their feet!!
I put down the paint on the cardboard, and the girls spread it out all over with their feet! We started with the lightest color first and worked our way to the darker colors. Our neighbors probably thought I had lost my mind, but the girls had a BLAST with this!
It made for a great before-bath art activity — messy, but a lot of FUN! Plus, it really tired them out!
They loved swirling the paint around with their toes, and it made for some interesting artwork!

Crazy maybe. But great messy fun, certainly!

Your such a fun mom, they don’t realize how blessed they are but they will someday. Cute idea and fun video.

Awwww… thanks, Debby! I had lots of fun watching them go to town with all that paint. Silly girls!

This made some pretty cool looking art!

Thanks, Rebecca! I need to find a space for it…. we’re going to have to open a gallery soon.

Very nice! Well thought-out, too, moving from lighter to darker colors =)

I wish I had this kind of foresight for some of our earlier projects. I keep forgetting how all the colors like to mix together!

Dear Valerie,
Thanks for waiting for me to get home to give the girls a bath. I fear that the ring around the tub may be permanent!
Love,
Mark

There’s little chance of that. These paints are washable. I’ve tested them.

Fun! We will definitely try it.
September 2nd, 2010 on 5:25 pm
Yay!!! Have fun!

I’ve tried to do that a few times, but my kids won’t do it. They want their paint brushes. Oh well, someday.
September 2nd, 2010 on 5:26 pm
There’s nothing wrong with paint brushes! Maybe you could let them use really BIG brushes on a HUGE sheet of butcher’s paper outside. That’s always a big hit!

So fun!! What a cool mom you are.
I wonder if my little guy would go for this. Until recently, he has hated getting messy, but this week he surprised me and has been loving a fingerprint art book, so who knows. Fingerprints, entire feet covered in paint – a bit of a reach but we may have to try it!
September 2nd, 2010 on 5:27 pm
How cute that he’s loving the fingerprint art book — that is the first step! For some reason, Emily did not want to dip her feet in paint and then on the cardboard, but if I put paint down on the cardboard first, she loved spreading it around with her feet. Kids are so weird!!

It’s always an adventure at our house LOL!
I think Abby would have great fun with this too!!

I’ve been wanting to do this but needed some inspiration! Your videos are so awesome and inspiring!
September 2nd, 2010 on 5:31 pm
Thanks so much, Min! I didn’t think the girls would enjoy it THAT much, but they really did! I would have joined them if I wasn’t so busy snapping photos/videos.

So much fun! I love the video. I have painted my kids’ feet and had them turn footprints into other things, but we haven’t done this yet. My kids will love it!
September 2nd, 2010 on 5:33 pm
That’s about as much as we’ve done with footprint paintings too. They just about went crazy for this!! Have fun!

We just did this the other day! We were fingerpainting outside just because it was nice out… but they quickly had the idea of using their feet

Thank you!

I love the video. Please tell me that you sped it up and your children do not really move that fast. Although if they did, you could fit a lot more into the day. I like leaving painting activities to the last five minutes of the day, too.

We did this one year on an old top sheet and made it into a table cloth. It eventually washed out as we did not use fabric paint, but it lasted quite awhile.
