Sunday Snapshot — DO NOT Try This at Home Edition

My brother treated the girls to a bit of science fun to find out what happens when you combine a 2 liter bottle of Diet Coke with a package of Mentos. DO NOT try this at home!!!!

With both of the girls a safe distance away, he quickly added the Mentos, and…..

they instantly react with the soda to make…..

…a HUGE geyser!!

WOAH!!! As I said earlier, Do NOT try this at home!!

Want to know why?? You can learn more about the reaction here and here. The girls were amazed!!! Science with Uncle Glenn is totally unforgettable.

  1. welcome to our wonderland says:

this is alot of fun to do! 🙂 my girls love watching it explode!

  2. Dear Valerie,

What’s wrong with doing this at home? Well, not IN your home, but outside. 😀

    Clearly, this requires further testing.

    Love,
    Mark

  3. We love doing this each year at our house! Cool science!

  4. When you say don’t try this at home…. What EXACTLY do you mean by that?? 🙂

    • Hahahahhaaa!!

Wear safety goggles — it’s all fun and games until someone gets a mentos in their eye!

  5. And very important, when the reaction has not worked. Do not stand over it and say “Why isn’t it working?” That’s when the reaction will occur and you get a nice little chemical peel on your face and it is really rather painful: http://adventuresofmommyness.blogspot.com/2010/05/homemade-explosives-okay-not-exactly.html

  6. This is actually really fun to do at home! Steve Spangler actually made it famous, as well as his hundreds of other unforgettable experiments. SteveSpangler.com is where we go and watch all his videos and try them! They rock!

  7. We’ve done this experiment before too. My boys LOVED it!!! It really does shoot high!!

  8. Totally agree with Ticia – her comment cracked me up.

  9. Looks pretty spectacular! 🙂

  10. We have tried this at home with friends, but what really got my boys into it was when they tried it on “Mythbusters” just to see how high they could really make it go – Check it out!

  11. Wow!
